3225HS Averatec Notebook Review: Can an ultraportable actually be affordable? It can if it's this beauty from Averatec. At 4.2 pounds, it's a tad heavier than most of its competition, but because the 3225HS features a DVD/CD-RW drive, you can watch movies on the 12.1-inch XGA display anywhere. Just as important, you're not giving up much in the way of productivity for the value price; AMD's Athalon XP-M processor delivers all the punch you need for everything from working in Word to surfing the web wirelessly using the 802.11g connection.

Built-in 54g wireless with dual antenna allows you to surf the web 5x faster than with 802.11b. 54g is becoming the new mainstream in wireless technology. Greater speed, improved reach, and added security makes it ideal for home, businesses or local "hotspots".

This machine features three USB 2.0 ports and a PC Card slot, but no FireWire port or memory card slot. Also, you shouldn't expect to play the latest games, as the system uses shared system RAM with integrated graphics. Still, with 2.5 hours of battery life, you can get a fair amount of work done before you have to recharge.
