Dell Inspiron XPS Review: The large 14.1 x 10.8 x 2-inch chassis is well suited to handle the heat-generating loads that are imposed by graphics and processor-intensive applications. Its size also provides room for the bottom-mounted subwoofer, which makes for excellent sound effects.

The Inspiron's gaming muscle comes from a 3.4GHz Pentium 4 processor with Hyper-Threading technology and 800MHz front side BUS, 512MB of RAM, and the 7200RPM 60GB hard drive. The optical drive is a DVD-RW burner.

The all-important video side of this gaming machine is very well handled by the ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 with 128MB of dedicated VRAM and that's further enhanced by a drop-dead gorgeous 15.4-inch widescreen display running at the WUXGA resolution of 1920x1200 pixels. Given the price of the XPS, it's worth noting that the graphics adapter can eventually be upgraded to whatever Dell installs in its next-generation gaming laptop. For the price of the system, the connectivity is fully covered with all necessary peripheral ports, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, and a TrueMobile 300 Bluetooth module. It's a killer system.
